The European Club Cup took place in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, from October 16th-24th 2010. A total of 351 players participated in the open section, with 135 GMs, 61 IMs, and 247 titled players altogether – 24 rated over 2700 Elo. The women's section had 64 players with ten GMs, 23 IMs, and 51 titled players.
The Russian team won the 2010 title with 13 match points, ahead of four teams with eleven apiece. But the most outstanding performance came from Armenian GM Levon Aronian, playing for Mika Yerevan, who scored 4.5/7 with a 2884 performance that brings him to 2803 (and at least number three in the world) on the next FIDE rating list. Aronian is only the sixth player to cross the 2800 mark.
