Blue screen of Death:
Today it is believed that such errors are mainly caused by similar errors in the kernel or driver programs for hardware.
yes, the blue screen...it does sound like hardware.
are you overclocking, blue screen and reboots are often a symptom of overclocking?
motherboard/CPU too hot.
Fire does load an awful lot into RAM if using the triplebases...
possible stressing the system more than some other engines.
another plausible explanation may be if HT (hyperthreading) is turned on?
on many HT enabled systems, Windows will see 6 cores as 12.
(w/ HT 'on' Windows recognizes each physical core as 2 logical cores)
Fire queries Windows SysInfo for the # of cores on startup.
of well...in any event
i'm happy to hear you found a solution.
First off all,Thanks for all these new releases..2.1 still running..2.2 just started :!:
About my system..i passed 17.000 games..my system has never blue screen or a reboot before when playing chess games..it only happen from Fire 1.5 and higher..the most stressing engines gives my system between 60-70°C while i stress my system with Linx i get 83°C
HT is always OFF for chess..this is my 14th build a system together!
I use all kind off stressing tools for my overclocking to be sure my system is stable and i go for a overclock where i reach 60°C ,because i at 10°C for hot days!
So i have always room left to go higher..but don't do that to keep a longer life time from the system.
Fritz12 Gui gives me alot problems when i test Fire..but with using the cfg file, everything looks like all other engines doing..running great for second day now! No,crash, hang error or reboot!
When we using Ivanhoe family engines we see sometimes still these hang errors..never see blue screen or reboot..but they hang sometimes.
The problem is..when you want to start games, and you are using Robbobases..these bases has to get loaded first..well that happen during the clock already running from for example IvanHoe..and it takes around 18-28seconds when he begin to calculate..so you loose already time before he calculate!
To prefend this loose seconds..i let engines both make one move, stop the game, and restart, engine that use the Robbobases start now directly calculating!
But the problem is already happen..Defragmentation memory??..it's possible i can run
whole day without problem if i'am lucky..else in 10 games i can have a few hang problems..so it's really random! If i see it's bad..i reboot and it can be fine!
When you play so many games, you have a systeem in playing games..i start always with engines who don't make any problem and at the end off the day i run the difficult ones :) where you know, this one can give me a error!
Now with making this cfg file..you don't have this problem anymore..because everything get loaded before the clocks begin to run..and then it works perfect!
So,you can compare it like in Arena..there you see everything get loaded before game begins!
Long time i have talks with friends, always thinking there get something wrong with memory..like defragmentation by using all these bases, large pages..a mix from engines who use same bases..and so on..
Therefore i had ask too Peterpan if it's not possible that the IvanHoe's also can have a cfg file..then i think these hang problems will also go away!
Offcourse the big question is,how has Robert fix that with Houdini..because this engine i have never see any error on my system!
So,IvanHoe get better with new releases..just a few random hang errors?
New Fire with cfg file under Fritz12 Gui..second day,No errors seen yet!
When he meet the other Fire's i make first cfg file and put the same settings as before he has played games. And see if everything is ok.
