Zappa lost to Iggorit, Komodo & Fire 2.2 scored critical wins over RobboLito and DeepSaros, but IvanHoe beat Deep Rybka to preserve Russia's 1 point lead.

Europe would've clinched gold with a 3.5-0.5 stomping over Germany, but Critter & Stockfish were held to draws by Spike & Deep Shredder.

Here's an update on the progress of the 2nd olympiad (coming soon!)

I have 32 teams set up. Some oddities include Naum 4.2 and Naum (Free) playing for the same team, Rybka 4.0 and Rybka (Free) playing for 2 different teams, and Deep Sjeng/Sjeng Free playing for the same team.

As I stated, there will be NO Ippolit engines in the olympiad. The format is expected to be a 10-round Swiss under the ChessGUI's team fight format. Time control should be 5 + 3 with 256MB Hash. Whether or not I'll be using Match Points instead of Board points, I don't know.

This will perhaps be the most ambitious team engine tournament anyone's ever done and I'm hoping this event will be a huge success.

Here's some quick updates.

I have 40 teams now.

I'm pondering whether to allow the free versions of Sjeng, Naum, and Rybka to participate. PLEASE give an opinion about this.

I'm also considering adding the Belarus team, but 2 engines are considered clones under the Winboard Olympic Chess Tournament site.

MATCH POINTS format will be used instead of Board points. This gives unbalanced teams a better chance of winning.

If you allow the latest commercial version of Rybka,Naum and Sjeng then there is no need for the free versions.Also disallowing Ippolit totally may take some charm from the tournament.Only allow Houdini,Fire and Vitruvius(Italy) and we will have the most exciting tournament of all time!

I'm strongly considering against allowing free versions of commercial engines into the field. It just doesn't feel right when I look at it.

The only Ippolit engines I would consider would be IvanHoe and Fire 2.2 since those engines have a SWCR rating. Strelka 5, a brand new Superengine is also up for review. Right now, I'm not adding ippolit engines.

Other minor issues I'm looking at is older versions of certain engines (e.g. Glaurung/Stockfish, Doch/Komodo, Fruit/Toga) and Derivatives such as Grapefruit. Otherwise, my plans would be to acquire all the engines, and test them to ensure they work.

The Olympiad is looking at a November 15 launch date. If possible, I would like someone to post the Participants, Pairings, and Results on a website, since I do not have one of my own.

Doch (Older version of Komodo)
Fruit (Older version of Toga)
Grapefruit (Derivative of Toga)
Cyclone (Derivative of Fruit)
Loop OR List (Similar engines)
PikoSzachy (Simplified version of NanoSzachy)
Sjeng 12.13 (Free version of Sjeng)

Should I ALLOW these engines to play, or should I EXCLUDE them?

Every top engine, except ippolit engines are expected to participate.

Older versions of certain engines, or known derivatives or clones may or may not be participating. I haven't completely made up my mind on that subject.

I initally set up as many as 40 teams, but now some teams unfortunately had to be dissolved, such as the Czech Republic, Austria, Belgium, and a 2nd team for England.
