There is no "correct time"... 1024 mb you can use in longer time control games... For example: from 30 min --->

@Divya - See this link :-

@Daku - For 5 min on slow processor 128 mb is enough.

on how much total RAM u have installed at your PC. But it would be nice that a specialist can clear up our minds.

Thx in advance.

Thx in advance.

u5min to until 16 min, timeing use 1024 hash, for log games u can use more hash depend on ur ram for 3 min timeing 512mb the best and for bullet i mean 1 min timeing 64mb hash the best or also can use 128mb hash

If you know the average move time T (in seconds) and the average node speed of your hardware S (in kN/s), you can compute the optimal hash size with the formula: (T x S / 100) MB.

For example if you use a Time Control of 10 minutes for 40 moves repeating, the average move time T = 15 seconds. On hardware that produces about 2,000 kN/s the optimal hash size would then be approximately (15 x 2,000 / 100) = 300 MB, in other words 256 MB or 512 would be the recommended values.

Thats what Robert Houdart wrote in his FAQ and its in general not only for houdini.

And one more thing:

the hash used should not exceed half of your computer total memory.

I understand those formulas, but i guess that those formulas apply based on a more or less fixed total ram size; i guess that the reply of an eng is not the same with 64, 256, 1mg, etc, hash, but in fuction with the total amount of ram in your PC; maybe there is a Poison or Gass curve that tells us those differents hash sizes in function of the total amount of ram at your PC, or isnt anything issued?

Try this program to calculate the hash table.@divya.batra45 wrote:plz help me

Chess100 Tell me something:

If in my computer play engine vs engine play with**PONDER OFF** what happen with hash in this match? Maybe calculate hash/2 = the bets hash? Is this corect?

I want set match engine vs engine 40/600min.+20/120+90/resto, ponder off, all engine use 1 core and 2933Ghz. Tell me what is the best hash for engine single core with ponder OFF in long time contorl 40 moves/600min.?

When I play in playchess for ex. game 5 min. then I have 5 min. + 5 min time of oppponent= 10 min, quad core!

But when play engine 1 core vs engine 1 core match in my computer then engine must have set time control 5x2x4=40 min. ponder OFF and this is same as with quad core in 5 min. time control ponder ON.
