It should auto-detect your CPU at startup (x86-64, x86-64-modern, or x86-64-bmi2) so that you have the fastest stockfish running in an universal way.

Stockfish vs Glaurung
Authors: Tord Romstad, Marco Costalba, Joona Kiiski
Stable release date: Stockfish DD [29 November 2013]

Features:
- Maximum size of the transposition tables is eight gigabytes.
- Advanced alpha-beta search and uses bitboards.
- Characterized by great search depth, due in part to more aggressive Late Move Reductions.
- - Late Move Reductions: Late Move Reductions (LMR) is a non-game specific enhancement to the alpha-beta algorithm and its variants which attempts to examine a game search tree more efficiently. It uses the assumption that good game-specific move ordering causes a program to search the most likely moves early. If a cut-off is going to happen in a search, the first few moves are the ones most likely to cause them. In games like chess, most programs search winning captures and "killers" first. LMR will reduce the search depth for moves searched later at a given node. This allows the program to search deeper along the critical lines, and play better.

History:
- Originated from Glaurung
- - open source chess engine created by Romstad and first released in 2004.
- - Costalba created Stockfish 1.0 in November 2008 by forking the 2.1 version of Glaurung.
- - New ideas / code changes transferred between the two programs in both directions.
- - Romstad discontinued Glaurung in favor of Stockfish, which was the more advanced engine at the time.
- - The last Glaurung version 2.2 was released in December 2008.

Stockfish Development:
- Changes to game-playing code are accepted or rejected based on results of playing thousands of games against an older version, using sequential probability ratio testing.
- Stockfish test framework has used a total of more than 110 years of CPU time donated by volunteers (March 2014).
- 70 million chess games have been played for Stockfish (March 2014).

Stockfish Build Your Own (BYO) by Brice Allenbrand

The 106b DOES IT !! Cool Brice IS AWESOME !!! (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/4rubami2nvldcoo/zgjePzy8p7/BYO)

Downloaded latest MC src - "Speed up by almost 3%" - BYO106b - compiled it !!

I (BYO) also build it from 'Internal' ! Also downloaded latest RW builds from drop box and downloaded 'Abrok.ru' dev build of MC commit "Speed up by almost 3%"

Conducted Test 12 - and WOW ! The results - especially in r/o 'Abrok.ru' - speak for themselves !! Have a look ...

[b]17 stockfish_14042700_x64_modern_sse42.exe (abrok)   8209+/-  56 Mnps

Impressive ! Isn't it !?

Now at least MC & Martin should 'use' BYO instead of 'abrock' - it's within TCEC rules - the same default dev (by BYO !! - instead of abrok ?!)

Also tried 'putting - MEM_HANDLER.cpp', 'sort.cpp', 'tbcore.cpp', 'tbprobe.cpp', 'tbcore.h', 'tbprobe.h', 'ffpcnt.h' - files in default MC src & launched BYO - in 'hope' that it would give 'latest' RW build ... but NO ... it doesn't ... it's not that easy ! It seems one has to / need to manually set/unset some switches in the compiler command line ... and perhaps more ... RW builds are not just copy-paste ... seems Brice has to do a lot to give us RW builds ... Only if BYO could do that ....!?

*

LTC : Remove the attack vs defense test

*

I'm running the STC for this engine!
normally if we compare the win/loss ratio
winning percentage is not this high
as we can see here
as in this section

I postulate and extrapolate that
the elo gain is up to 10
which is a huge update

and the previous 5 sec LTC of the best SF version is quite done under the ThorRating list

this is SF v. H4

as we can see here
both played almost neck and neck
but at the end one side won with the slightest margin possible

it was like a basketball match
in which both teams played almost equally throughout the whole match
so the audience members were put in a super precarious position
where they can't speculate which team will win
so the viewers were on the verge of the seat the whole time

in short, this was a quality match

if I remember correctly
I remenisce about the TC being 5 sec per move
aka LTC
