Rodent 1.0 JA

- silent update, version number unchanged.
- this is a 64-bit non-popcnt version only.
- the previous non-popcnt was actually a popcnt version.

it includes source code, opening book and Windows compiles. 32-bit version should work even on XP systems, as it was created using older MSVC compiler. as for Linux version, I must rely on external help.

Rodent 1.3 finally comes with a reasonable capability for creating various style settings (older versions were buggy and rather incomplete, missing parameters for pawn structure, passers and contempt). Perhaps the funniest option to expreriment with is the choice between two almost equivalent king safety functions.

There are two new personalities, Monster (mad attacker, using the alternative king safety function to the utmost) and Grumpy (solid but surprisingly relentless player, modelled after some of my elderly OTB opponents).

As for playing strength, previous version has been beaten by 54,2%. This is mainly due some tuning. LMR and move ordering tweaks (refutation and continuation moves).

From the author:

It is a complete rewrite, which I had to do due to some untraceable bug in 1.7 codebase, causing node discrepancies between debug and release compiles. I didn't manage to implement all the functionalities from previous codebase yet. This is actually a good news, because it leaves me with some relatively simple improvements.

Another good news is that current source is Linux compatibile, owing to several hints kindly supplied by Dave Kaye. There is also a Linux executable. Preparing 32-bit Windows version, however, will take me a couple of days.

Due to some other commitments please don't expect new Rodent before September. In the meantime, however, I invite You to create new Rodent personalities. The tuning system has matured (and has been documented), option names are finally readable also for non-programmers. It is likely that one can squeeze some more elo out of it - or some more fun, whatever you fancy. If there is enough interest, I can run a tournament of user-defined personalities.

As for playing strength, the gain over version 1.7 is really modest, something like 25 Elo. Hopefully, code is much more maintainable and will allow firther strength increase, something that has become too difficult with previous codebase.

Rodent II 0.9.33
http://www.pkoziol.cal24.pl/rodent/download.htm

I guess it is 2850 Elo on the CCRL scale again (previous version has dived down to 2812). I worked mainly on endgame performance, stabilizing quiescence search, adding more endgame knowledge and improving middlegame positional play, so that Rodent has a chance of surviving till endgame in a slightly better shape than it used to. Nevertheless, this is still the same messy and aggressive engine that it used to be, so have fun!

Beside that there are new parameters for tweaking personalities (preference for keeping given kind of pieces + possibility of setting opening book from personality file).

- more stable quiescence search
- more endgame knowledge, including unstoppable passers
- limiting check extension
- adding recapture extension in pv nodes
- retuning some eval parameters, including passed pawns values
- half-open files are less valuable if enemy pawn on a file is defended
- queen is less valuable with enemy minor pieces on the board
- minor pieces like to be shielded by a pawn
- internal iterative deepening in pv nodes
- mate distance pruning
- opening book can be defined in personality file (depending on basic.ini settings)
- new stylistic parameters for keeping pieces on board

As a bonus, I have changed Rodent's homepage a bit - hope You like it.

Windows64 and Linux64 binaries download : https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-PM8aD2-9I4dXVySm9CZVgtRWc

If you use Rodent opening books they must be placed in SAME folder as executable.

Opening book is not included in the download but can be downloaded at Rodent's homepage.

From my tests this version is a little bit stronger than 0.9.33(latest official version).
