Portfish is a C# port of the Stockfish engine - it was created in order to support platforms that do not have C support. Also it served as a test to check what performance ratio could be achieved by such a conversion - managed to stay under 1:3. Of course it still appears very slow :) It won't have therefore any chance to beat the original, but it is still quite powerful (should be in the TOP 20).

Cheers,
Balint

Hi Balint, what are the main differences between the two, Portfish and Stockfish? evaluation, search, new features,...?

As funny as it sounds, nothing functionally, just some logging facilities are stripped - as the goal was to fully port the original. Technically there are a lot of differences, but all of them in order to optimize performance.

Bob, do you have 4.5 beta FW installed?
Results sounds somwhat strange as 2.0 should be more off... Anyway.
I would be very happy if you could provide results against latest Junior, Spike and Shredder, if interested and having CPU time.

Cheers, Balint

Are there any more such files for the other illegal moves? (as L: i=X marks the illegal move based losses).
I wonder what could be the problem as I never saw an illegal move in Arena, and also your previous tests did not show any illegal moves at all!

Thanks, Balint

Should be something very strange happening. Could you post a couple of them? Did you mean it also happened for Junior?

Cheers, Balint

Thanks a lot Bob! Currently can't download it, but I will check it in the evening. I think there is no sense to go on with testing as this issue practically destroys the results.

Thanks again, Balint
