Stockfish Tuning

Not sure if I should ask this question in this thread, but I'm wondering if anyone has answer to the following questions:

1. Do changes of the Stockfish settings have any effect? I assume they do (why else would they be there), but am not sure.
2. If the answer to question 1 is "Yes": does anyone have an idea what settings would make Stockfish perfom good (or even excellent)?
3. Who is you guys is experimenting (in a systematic way, not just playing around) with Stockfish settings? I would like to get in contact with you. Maybe we can collaborate and find good optimized settings.

Thanks to all for taking the time to read and anwers my questions. thumb up

Try these settings:
Mobility (Middle Game) = 90
Passed Pawns (Middle Game) = 90
Or
Stockfish PHQ by Frank Quisinsky
Mobility (Middle Game)=125
Aggressiveness=150
Cowardice=75

The settings are one OR the other or u can combine the 2 of them???

Use the same number of physical cores as your hardware indicates and not the number of virtual threads. I think that hyperthreading is only good for running multiple operating systems; otherwise for computer chess it would only disintegrate performance of the Stockfish engine just as it would the Houdini engine.

ok, u are right, but in such case we should change the max threads per split point to which number????

By default

Minimum Split Depth is 0
Maximum Threads per Split Point is 5

I think Minimum Split Depth is 0, because it allows Stockfish to "Split" the Depth without any limitation so I would not recommend changing that.

As for Maximum Threads per Split Point, if 5 is chosen for 4 cores by default, then I would incrementally increase to 5 by 1 for each core of hardware.

5 = 4
6 = 6
7 = 8
etc.

This above suggestion is for experimentation only ^

But if you do not feel comfortable with manipulating the maximum threads per split point,

Marco Costalba says this:

"Stockfish automatically adjusts the value of
max-threads-per-split-point according to the available number of
threads (cores)
, so I just suggest to leaving the defaults."
