Significant ELO gains are measured by the stats quo. For example it is illogical for any of todays top engines to expect a gain of 100 points from a release. A ten point gain is a nice gain in strength when you get into that particular ELO range. A ten point gain in top GM play are significant gains, not exceptional but a solid gain indeed. A twenty point gain is fantastic and I'd say a thirty point gain is spectacular when you consider the relativity based on past gains. I think this line of thinking is much more realistic based on the current trend in engine gains. cool
